SHORT FILM • ANIMATED

Lois Gould was an American writer, known for her novels and other works about women’s lives. Her only children’s story, X: A Fabulous Child’s Story was a feminist story questioning gender roles; it first appeared in Ms. Magazine in July 1972 and in 1978 expanded into a book by Daughter’s Publishing Co with original illustrations by Jacqueline Chwast. Today the story can be found in the short story collection, Tales for Little Rebels: A Collection of Radical Children’s Literature

X: A Fabulous Child’s Story became one of the most celebrated and iconic works of the unisex era and has since been republished, adapted and shared across dozens of publications and platforms.

Director Brendan Bradley’s parents frequently read this story to his siblings and classmates. He has since read the story to classrooms across New York and Southern California. To bring the characters to life, we found digital talent who share our passion for gender equality and viral video.

The short appeared in festivals around the world and was featured on NPR’s Hidden Brain after the film received over 2 Million views online.
